Details below

The CYMC Island Jazz is an intensive, one-week music camp designed to provide students with an immersive experience in jazz improvisation and performance. We are proud to bring together some of Canada's most prominent educators and performers to offer an engaging and exciting learning opportunity for musicians of all ages and skill levels.

Island Jazz is open to all instruments, including woodwinds, brass, and rhythm section (piano, electric or acoustic bass and drums). It welcomes musicians of all levels - from beginners to advanced players. Our program is tailored to meet the needs of aspiring musicians who are just starting to learn the fundamentals of improvisation and seasoned performers.

Students who sign up who play piano or drums.  They will need to pay $20 extra for the rental of a piano or drum kit. The fee is separate from the $600 registration fee.

We are seeking to deepen your understanding of advanced jazz concepts.

The week is packed with activities, including a rigorous schedule of masterclasses on your instrument, improvisation and theory classes (beginner, intermediate or advanced), and small combo and extensive band rehearsals. Daily jam sessions with faculty members allow students to expand their creative horizons and work on the concepts explored throughout the week. Ensembles formed early in the week based on goals and ability levels will play at the jazz jam concert. The camp culminates with a Saturday afternoon/evening concert featuring the Big Band and all combos.

Take advantage of this opportunity to perform, jam, and receive practical jazz instruction in the breathtaking setting of the Comox Valley! We welcome you to the CYMC Island Jazz Intensive, where you'll leave with new ideas and a stronger foundation in improvisatory techniques.
