It’s incredible what happens in three weeks. With two weeks to mount a production, from casting to stage and then a week of tech and performances, the musical theatre program is intense.

Ask the youth who participate and they will tell you it is just part of the magic which makes this camp so special. Participants form meaningful bonds, share their talents, gain a wide array of fresh skills and discovering new potential. The week culminates in a run of six shows at the Comox Valley’s professional Sid Williams Theatre, to a enthusiastic audience.

The program is enhanced by a variety of workshops, designed to develop students’ skills in dance, voice, stage combat, acting and theatre production work. All students participate in a Musical Theatre Showcase performance and squeeze in bonding activities such as beach or movie nights. The days can run from 9 am to 9 p.m. so be prepared to leave the experience contentedly exhausted.

CYMC Chicago High School Edition
Ladies and Gentlemen. You are about to see a story of murder, greed, corruption, violence, exploitation, adultery and treachery. All the things we hold near and dear to our hearts.

So begins Chicago, the sharp edged satire, and the longest running American musical in Broadway history, and the show on which the Academy award winning film was based.

Set in the roaring twenties, and with wonderful inspiration from Vaudeville, Chicago explores the lives of the Velma Kelly, Roxie Hart and the other Merry Murderesses on death row in their quest for fame, fortune, and acquittal.

And now CYMC will bring the high school version of this incredible show to the stage at the Sid Williams Theatre.

With a dazzling score, an intelligent and witty script, and fantastic roles for women, Chicago is a show not to be missed.

6 shows at the Sid Williams Theatre – July 17 – 21, 2018
