Lori Mazey – Director, Musical Theatre
Lori is the Director of Theatre Arts and Dance at Vanier Secondary School in Courtenay, BC and the coach of 2 time Canadian Improv Games National Champions. She has her degree in Theatre, her Masters in Education, and is an Associate of Trinity College in London for Speech Arts.
Lori was the Comox Valley Arts Council’s 2005 Mentor of the year and was selected for Rotary’s Paul Harris fellowship in 2010. She has also won numerous awards both regionally and provincially for her directing for the ABCDE and Theatre BC Drama Festivals. Award winning productions include Biloxi Blues, Never Swim Alone, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare, Abridged, Romeo and Juliet, and The Laramie Project.
Lori has also directed 21 musicals and travels to New York regularly to attend classes and see and learn as much as she can about theatre and dance. Because she is passionate about eternal learning, she attends dance and theatre classes and workshops regularly, She has taken workshops with Keith Johnstone, Alice Ripley, Jeff Hyslop, Scott Swan and the musical directors and set designers for Broadway’s Spiderman, Turn off the Dark. She was also honoured to lead director workshops for Courtenay Little Theatre and to act as a liaison for bringing Seacoast Studio’s Scott Swan to the Comox Valley–where he has led several acting workshops for schools and the community.
She has directed Chorus Line and Glee Club in 2011, Les Miserable Student Edition in 2012, Shrek, the Musical in 2013 and Thoroughly Modern Millie in 2014, West Side Story in 2015, and Fiddler On The Roof in 2016. Lori is excited to be a part of the 2019 CYMC Musical Theatre team.
