CYMC is excited to present an online masterclass with New York-based jazz great Ralph Bowen. Throughout his career, Bowen has performed alongside top-shelf musicians including jazz legend Horace Silver, Orrin Evans, Michel Camilo, Renee Rosnes, and Kenny Garrett. His discography includes more than 70 titles. Don’t miss this opportunity to study with one of the world’s finest musicians and educators. The masterclass will be open to anyone who is interested, not just those attending the CYMC summer jazz intensive. The topics covered will provide musicians of any level with inspiring concepts and ideas to practice. The masterclass will happen on Zoom- please have your instrument handy.

Over the 6 days intensive, students can expect to hone their improvisation skills, improve their technical abilities on their instruments and garner inspiration from top-shelf jazz musicians and educators.
Sign up soon because numbers are limited for this year’s program due to COVID-19 restrictions and safety guidelines.

CYMC is excited to present our 2021 online Island Jazz Intensive.

Over 6 days students will have the opportunity to study with some of the top musicians and educators on the scene today.

Though Covid restrictions has made it impossible to run our usual in-person camp, we are excited to give students and professionals alike an opportunity to attend online masterclasses on their instruments as well as improvisation and theory workshops with a faculty that would not otherwise be available to us.

We are especially excited to include New York-based jazz great Ralph Bowen for a special guest masterclass on July 14.

See the faculty list for more info about Ralph.

We would like to say a big thank you for the wonderful jazz camp you have been running for 49* years. Quinn had a great time, didn’t want to come home, and can’t wait to go next year, he came home exhausted but a big smile on his face. Thank you for making this possible for him, he learned a lot from his drumming teacher and the other mentors. We will pass on this wonderful program to other kids so they can experience it themselves

– Quinn, Andre and Lindsay

CYMC gave me the inspiration to compose, arrange, perform and improvise.  The passion I have for performing and recording music is a direct result of the educators that I learned from. Their creed for the art of jazz and classical music rubbed off on me so positively that the only way I can breathe is through my horn.
