Paul Colthorpe

With his BMus (UVic ’84) and MEd (UVic ’91) degrees, Paul began teaching here in the beautiful Comox Valley in 1991, after 4 years in Quesnel. His 33 years of music experience has seen him instruct thousands of students from Kindergarten to Grade 12, and countless more adults in various community groups. A number of his students have made their way into professional careers in music and he is honoured to have worked with many classical musicians who now travel internationally as in-demand soloists.

Currently, he holds the positions of music teacher at Ecole Puntledge Park Elementary, Director of Music Ministries at Comox United Church, and Artistic Director of the North Island Choral Society; a post he has been fortunate to have since 1995. This non-auditioned group and its accompanying orchestra have performed Arcadelt to Verdi, and their renditions of many of these choral masterworks of the repertoire have been very well-received by the public.

Paul’s mantra is “music by and for the community”; he is proud of the growth and accomplishments of this group and thanks the CYMC Board for this exciting opportunity leading the CYMC Festival Choir.
