Classical Music in the 21st Century: What’s New in How We Present and Hear the Classics?
Classical Music in the 21st Century: What’s New in How We Present and Hear the Classics? will be presented by guest speaker Dr. David Gordon Duke, Vancouver Sun Music columnist, and long-time VCC Music instructor and composer.
By definition, “Classical Music” is our shared heritage of musical masterworks from the past. Yet, in our own time, how we play music of past eras, the expansion of repertoire, changing attitudes towards performances, and the use of technology is creating new challenges and wonderful new opportunities. Join David Gordon Duke for an informative and accessible, illustrated lecture (for all knowledge levels) that considers how exciting developments in music have created a new Golden Age for music lovers. Partial proceeds from this fundraiser event will go to the following worthy community partner: CYMC proposes to contribute the ElderCollege Comox Valley gift to help fund their Artists in Residence Program. Each Artist in Residence delivers masterclasses and workshops to students and is also featured prominently in performance opportunities throughout the Comox Valley.
