Camp & Accommodations
CYMC’s home for the summer camp is Mark Isfeld School.
Mark R. Isfeld Secondary is the main campus for CYMC’s summer camp activities. Instrumental and Island Jazz Intensive classes and rehearsals are held on the premises. Concerts are held at various locations in the Comox Valley. WiFi is available at Mark Isfeld.
Musical Theatre students walk across the playing fields to the adjoining Valley View Elementary for their classes and rehearsals. The set is constructed in the gym for
rehearsals while the multi-purpose room is available for ensemble work. The Musical Theatre show is performed at the Sid Williams Theatre in Courtenay.
Lunches and dinners for participants are prepared in the Mark Isfeld Home Economics room and served buffet style in the hallway. All meals are included in the Room and Board Fees and special dietary needs are accommodated. Please be sure to inform us of any food allergies and/or preferences. Students not living in camp will be able to buy lunches for $10 and dinners for $12 each. It is strongly encouraged that local students, particularly Musical Theatre students, consider paying for both lunch and dinner for most days. It is requested that meals be ordered and paid for by June 15, 2018.
At least one counsellor is present at all times. Counsellors are provided with a cell phone should any emergency occur and there are procedures for dealing with these. The Comox Valley’s brand new hospital is only fives minute away. Activities and transportation are included in the camp fees and consist of beach barbecues, swimming, hiking, kayaking and picnics. Laundry is taken to a local laundromat twice during the three weeks of camp at a cost of $10 for a 14 pound bag and returned same day washed and dried, but not folded (to save on the cost).
Night time accommodations will be at école Au-cœur-de-l’île, 566 Linshart Avenue, Comox rather than Mark Isfeld School, as School District 71 has discontinued overnight stays at all facilities. Cots topped with foam mats will be set up in the divided gym, one side for gals and the other for guys. There will be two smaller classrooms for those who prefer it quiet earlier than our 11:00 pm lights out. Counsellors will accompany students on the evening bus and will be on duty/on call throughout the night. Showers are available and breakfast will be served before the bus returns campers to Mark Isfeld for morning classes. Students will need to bring their own bedding: sheets, pillow and sleeping bag.
The local airport and bus terminals are about a 10-15 minute drive from the school, and we have dedicated volunteers who will meet students and drive them to the school. Just let us know at what time and where any student will be arriving and they will be met. We can also drop them off at the end of the program. Click here for all travel options.
